Address by the President on the beginning of vaccination against COVID-19

Fellow citizens!

Today we have finished the lockdown, our country has completed the intensified quarantine. First of all, I would like to congratulate all of us, and secondly, to thank everyone.

Together, thanks to consciousness, cautiousness and discipline, we managed to achieve good results.

First of all - unlike many European countries, after the winter holidays we did not have an outbreak of infection. And that is the key thing. Moreover, during the lockdown there were more recovered than infected.

In addition, we have provided 14 thousand extra beds. In total, today there are almost 70 thousand beds. 70% of them are vacant. And more than 80% of beds in the country are supplied with oxygen.

It can be stated that this lockdown has paid off. It was quite short in time and quite liberal compared to other European countries.

We did not close the cities, public transport didn’t stop working, there was no state of emergency or curfew.

Also, almost half a million Ukrainians received direct assistance in the amount of 8,000 hryvnias. In total, more than 3.6 billion hryvnias were paid. For the first time in the history of independent Ukraine during the crisis, money was allocated to direct assistance for entrepreneurs and their employees.

And no less important - we have good news about the vaccine against COVID-19. Vaccination will begin in February. We expect that Ukraine will soon receive one million doses of the vaccine - the first million - from a leading international company. We will be able to announce the details shortly.

To sum up, I can say that the situation is stable, controlled and not as threatening as in the spring. We managed to reduce the number of patients several times compared to the period of daily anti-records. But please let's not relax. The end of the lockdown does not mean the end of the war against COVID-19. I urge you - continue to follow the safety rules. Wear masks, disinfect your hands, keep your distance. And if you have symptoms - call a family doctor.

You know, I often received wishes of good health today.

I want to wish sound health to all of you, fellow Ukrainians. Good immunity and 36.6.

Let's take care of ourselves, let's take care of our relatives, let's take care of our Ukraine!
