Ensuring energy security of Ukraine and Europe was one of the key issues at a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel on June 18 in Berlin.
During a briefing with the German Chancellor, President Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine's position was "diametrically opposite" to the position of Germany in implementing the Nord Stream 2 project.
"At the same time, we are grateful for the willingness of Germany to hold mutual dialogue on this difficult issue. Continuation of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, its accumulation in Ukrainian storage facilities is a guarantee of energy security of both Ukraine and Europe. This is a civilized method of ensuring a fair and secure European gas market," the President of Ukraine noted.
