Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva discussed the Transdniestrian Settlement with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Thomas Mayr-Harting

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva met with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Thomas Mayr-Harting. The parties focused on the course of negotiations in the "5+2" format on a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The parties noted the slowdown in the negotiations in which Ukraine has been participating as a guarantor and mediator since 1995, and stressed the importance of making additional efforts to restore their dynamics.

Ihor Zhovkva spoke about the recent official visit of President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu to Ukraine, during which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, among other things, discussed the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.

The Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine stressed: "The position of our state on the conflict in the Transnistrian region remains unchanged: only a peaceful settlement ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova."

Ihor Zhovkva also reminded that the issue of our state's participation in the Transdniestrian Settlement Process was given special attention during the visit of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ann Linde to Ukraine in January 2021.

For his part, Thomas Mayr-Harting agreed on the importance of taking practical steps to build trust between the participants in the “5+2” dialogue and move to a political settlement process as soon as possible.
