Strict quarantine restrictions will not be introduced in December, but it is possible that quarantine measures will be tightened in January, which will be announced in advance. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his vlog.
“Lockdown in December. I believe and hope that we really don't need it right now. We considered the pros and cons, a lot of data and forecasts, consulted with local authorities, received assurances from the Ministry of Health on the control over the situation in hospitals, and I advised the Prime Minister not to declare a lockdown in December," the President said.
He noted that the so-called weekend quarantine has paid off - the daily number of the infected with COVID-19 has stopped growing rapidly. Despite the current problems in some regions, which are already being addressed, the overall situation is under control and does not dictate the immediate introduction of a lockdown in December.
"We allow businesses to work without losing December - one of the most profitable months of the year. And we will not spoil holidays for people, which you are all looking forward to," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
However, as the President noted, in order to avoid a rapid increase in the number of infections, Ukrainians must adhere to safety measures and take care of their health.
"Please, people, wear masks. Wear them properly. Covering mouth and nose. Disinfect your hands. Keep your distance. Avoid crowds. Boost the immunity. Having symptoms? Stay at home. Please do not diagnose yourself, do not prescribe medication, especially antibiotics. And immediately consult a family doctor," the Head of State stressed.
According to him, with disciplined compliance with anti-epidemic requirements, there is a chance to spend the New Year and Christmas holidays without a lockdown and reduce the number of patients in hospitals making the "best New Year's gift" to doctors.
At the same time, the President noted that quarantine would be very difficult to avoid altogether, and it is likely to be introduced in January. Citizens will be informed about its introduction in advance.
"I have instructed the government to inform you next week - in advance, in detail, clearly: when there will be a lockdown. What is its clear format? Detailed list of all quarantine measures. So it won't be a surprise to anyone, I promise. And the government will announce it not a week before the lockdown, as provided by law, but much earlier," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that if the quarantine restrictions are tightened, the state border will remain open for Ukrainian citizens to leave and enter.
"A probable lockdown in January does not mean that you need to cancel a planned vacation and return tickets," the President added.
