In Brussels, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the European Council António Costa to discuss strengthening Ukraine.
The President emphasized that Ukraine’s top priority is the protection of its energy infrastructure.
"I am referring, of course, to safety at nuclear power plants. This is very dangerous not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe if something goes wrong. Additionally, the preservation of gas storage facilities is important both for Ukraine and for other Europeans," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Another key topic of discussion was the expansion of domestic defense production. According to the President, this has already proven effective, yielding concrete results on the battlefield.
The leaders also focused on the protection of Ukrainian children and the construction of shelters in schools and kindergartens.
Particular attention was paid to the role of Europe in the global context and how to consolidate international efforts to achieve a just peace.
"Especially at the very beginning of next year, we will urgently need unity between the United States, the EU, and European countries. This is extremely important; we need this unity to achieve peace. I believe that only together can the United States and Europe truly stop Putin and save Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
António Costa noted that Ukraine can count on the EU’s unwavering support.
"Now we are in a state of war, but in the future, we will be in a state of peace. And we hope to welcome you one day here as a member of the European Union. We will work with you to achieve this and to secure a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace," stated the President of the European Council.
