During her visit to the Republic of Türkiye, First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska participated in the launching ceremony of the Ada class corvette "Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi." This vessel was constructed for the Ukrainian Navy at a shipyard in Türkiye.
The First Lady expressed her gratitude to the Turkish partners, the Commander of the Navy, and the entire diplomatic team of Ukraine for strengthening the defensive capabilities of our country.
"We understand the importance of security better than anyone. This corvette will ensure the safety of our shared region, the common sea of our countries. We are defending not only ourselves but also the very principle of peaceful coexistence for everyone. Thus, this ship is another step on this path," Olena Zelenska stated.
With a vessel of this class, Ukraine will be able to protect its national interests not only in the Black and Azov Seas but also in the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
The wife of the President of Ukraine also visited the first corvette built in Türkiye, "Hetman Ivan Mazepa," which is currently undergoing sea trials. The First Lady also participated in the launching ceremony of this vessel. She met with the ship’s crew and presented them with a painting by Natalia Pavlusenko titled "Hetman Ivan Mazepa."
"May the courage and bravery of Hetman Ivan Mazepa inspire you to defend our Motherland, and may his spirit protect and watch over you," said Olena Zelenska.
The corvette "Hetman Ivan Mazepa" was launched on October 2, 2022, and the keel of the second was laid in Türkiye last August. The construction of these ships is part of a framework agreement concluded between Ukraine and Türkiye at the end of 2020.
