Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece in Riga.
The Head of State thanked for the active position of the Latvian Parliament on maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, providing assistance to aggrieved persons in Donbas.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude for the principled position of Latvia and solidarity with Ukraine in condemning the decision to return the Russian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and welcomed the important initiative in establishing the permanent group Baltic plus in the PACE.
The Head of State stressed the necessity of development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and expressed hope for establishing active dialogue and effective working contacts between the Saeima and the Verkhovna Rada.
"Latvia is a small country, but big in fact, because you have a big heart," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Latvian parliamentarians were pleased to hear that more than 60% of Ukrainians wanted to be in the European Union and promised to support Ukraine
The Head of State and the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia discussed coordination of actions within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on reforms that had been implemented by Ukraine. The Latvian deputies noted that the reforms were complex. They also stressed that they were satisfied with the dynamics of changes that bring Ukraine into the European space.
They invited representatives of the Ukrainian Government and Parliament to a conference on Ukrainian issues which would be held in Riga in December.
In addition, the President inspected the Session Hall of the Saeima of Latvia and spoke briefly with members of the the Latvian-Ukrainian interparliamentary friendship group.
