President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka, who arrived on a visit to our country.

The Head of State praised active interaction with Japan and Tokyo's leadership in supporting Ukraine during Japan's G7 Presidency. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the fruitful dialogue with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, particularly during his visit to Hiroshima in May.

"We have talked a lot with Mr. Kishida about rebuilding and restoring Ukraine. I am very pleased that during Japan's G7 Presidency, security guarantees for Ukraine were endorsed. Security is extremely important for reconstruction," he said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked for the practical assistance provided by JICA in the restoration of Ukraine and for the implementation of projects to support key sectors of the national economy. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, the financial support received by Ukraine from JICA has exceeded USD 1.1 billion.

During the meeting, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Akihiko Tanaka discussed the priority areas of JICA's activities in Ukraine. In particular, the Head of State emphasized the involvement of Japan in the production of demining equipment, the development of a network of rehabilitation centers for veterans and the military, as well as the production of energy equipment.

The President of Ukraine also emphasized the importance of further implementation of the initiated infrastructure projects with the participation of JICA, namely the modernization of the Bortnychi Aeration Station in Kyiv.

Special attention was paid to the prospects of attracting Japan's technological potential for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine in such areas as the production of energy equipment, lithium batteries, hydrogen, and cars.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked JICA for its readiness to actively participate in the preparation of the Ukraine Recovery Conference to be held in Tokyo in early 2024.
