During his working visit to the United States, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives Abdulla Shahid.
The President noted Ukraine's willingness to cooperate effectively in implementing the priorities of the President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and strengthening the role of the General Assembly as the most representative political body in the world.
"We also look forward to working closely on important security issues for our country and the region, which should remain a priority for the General Assembly," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In this regard, he stressed that the key priority for Ukraine within the UN remains the fight against Russian aggression and the restoration of territorial integrity, the deoccupation of Donbas and Crimea.
The President emphasized: "It is important for Ukraine that during the 76th session of the General Assembly, under your chairmanship, member states hold a full-fledged debate within the Ukrainian point "Situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine".
Volodymyr Zelenskyy briefed the President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on the results of the Crimea Platform Summit and stressed that achieving the ultimate goal of this initiative - the return of Crimea - is a way to restore respect for the UN Charter.
He stressed the importance of approving at the plenary session two General Assembly resolutions that Ukraine and its partners plan to submit: "The human rights situation in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine" and "The problem of militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov".
"These documents are a practical tool for protecting human rights in the occupied territories and preventing the further transformation of Crimea into a military base with nuclear weapons - a direct threat to global security," said the President of Ukraine.
The President also informed about the holding of the Kyiv Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen.
