President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house of the Japanese Parliament) Tadamori Oshima and President of the House of Councillors (Upper House of Parliament) Akiko Santō.
The President thanked the leadership of the Japanese Parliament for supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He also expressed confidence in the effectiveness of the work of the newly formed parliamentary group of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on inter-parliamentary relations with Japan. "I believe that the group's activities will take the inter-parliamentary dialogue between our states to a new level," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The parties discussed reforms and attraction of investments in Ukraine.
President of the House of Councillors Akiko Santo stressed that more than 40 Japanese private companies were registered in Ukraine and Japanese businessmen pointed to Ukraine's great potential. The Head of State expressed hope that the number of Japanese companies registered in Ukraine would increase.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also congratulated Akiko Santo on the recent election.
For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tadamori Oshima stressed that he knew about Ukraine due to the performance of our athletes. He is hopeful to see them at the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a visa-free regime for Ukrainians on the eve of these competitions.
