President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada of the eighth convocation. He told this in the inaugural speech on May 20 in Kyiv, during the solemn session of the parliament.
He also called on the people's deputies to adopt the laws on the abolition of parliamentary immunity, criminal liability for illegal enrichment and the Electoral Code in two months before the early elections, providing for open lists. In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy demands the people’s deputies to dismiss the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
"You will have two months to do this. Do it. Take all the medals for yourself. Those are pretty good points for the early parliamentary elections. I am dissolving the Verkhovna Rada of the eighth convocation," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine also appealed to the government officials: "You can take a sheet of paper, take a pen and step aside for those who think about the next generations, not about the next elections. Do it. And people will appreciate that".
