President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Moldova Ion Chicu and Vice Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Akhmedov on the occasion of completing Ukraine's presidency at the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development in 2019.
The Head of State praised the intensification of cooperation between Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova within the GUAM and holding of an annual meeting at the level of heads of government.
“Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova are connected not only by a common history, but also by a common vision of the development of our future. We are united by the aspiration for security and stability in the region, economic development, investment growth, infrastructure development and cultural exchange between our people,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the meeting.
The President of Ukraine stressed that the multilateral dialogue had great potential.
The participants of the meeting reaffirmed their continued support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova.
The parties discussed a number of joint economic and infrastructure projects. They stressed the importance of developing promising transport routes, in particular for multimodal transportation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also suggested continuing the process of implementation of simplified procedures of border crossing by citizens of GUAM countries, in particular with the use of internal passports in the format of ID-card.
The GUAM members agreed on the need to take concrete steps to expand the organization's capacity, improve GUAM's internal communication, and promote the organization.
