President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the importance of the result and punishment of criminals in the investigation of the murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet. He stated this during a meeting with law enforcement officers in Kyiv on July 23. The Head of State noted that he had initiated this meeting to both journalists and the public to hear from representatives of law enforcement agencies about the investigation of the tragedy that occurred three years ago.
"I want you and I will listen to the report of our law enforcement agencies, namely the police. We need to hear all the details and to understand what chances do we have... We want the killers to be punished," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, and stressed that he personally and society, and especially journalists want to get information on the case and help in its investigation.
After the report of the Chief of National Police of Ukraine Serhiy Knyazev on the investigation of the crime and hearing a secret report, the President expressed his conviction that the case would be opened. He also urged not to put pressure on investigators.
"I think that we will get a result with you, from what I have already seen. The police with the help of the Prosecutor's office and the Security Service will finish the case and people who committed the murder would be found" the Head of State said. He also mentioned that the Chief of National Police of Ukraine provided a lot of materials that give grounds to make such a statement.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked not to put pressure on him or the law enforcement officers on the issue of disclosure of the details of the investigation.
"I want you and I not to put pressure on the criminal investigation officers. They have a lot of work. I'm sure they could not show you a lot of these facts. Just could not. In this case, we need a result for you. Most importantly, the people who blew up the journalist Pavlo Sheremet would end up behind the bars," the President noted.
He also expressed his conviction that after publication of the results of the investigation and bringing the perpetrators to responsibility our society and journalists will see the details of the case and understand how much has been done.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he is going to do everything possible to achieve the result in this case.
"I will do all my best in accordance with the law", the President said.
In addition, the Head of State expressed disappointment that Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has not come to this meeting.
"I wanted to see him. Vacation is a vacation, no problem!" Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
