As part of his official visit to the Republic of Poland, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki.
The Ukrainian President thanked the Polish Prime Minister for the words of support and corresponding powerful steps that he, as the Prime Minister of Poland, has taken since the very beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine.
“This visit to Warsaw, all our negotiations today can really be called victorious. A new and really necessary defense package for our warriors has been agreed upon, which protects freedom and independence not only of Ukraine, but also Poland, Europe, and the whole world. And it is very important that the soldiers who are currently in the trenches in the east, where it is hot, who are in the south of Ukraine, know that here, in Warsaw, we have agreed upon something that will give Ukraine and each and every one of our soldiers more strength. We really need this strength now. I thank you for that, Mateusz,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President of Ukraine stated that the preliminary agreements reached, in particular, during the meeting in Lviv, have already been fulfilled.
"There is an obvious Polish leadership in the tank coalition. And Polish tanks are already on the battlefield in Ukraine. And in the same way, together with our allies, we must ensure the creation of an aviation coalition - at the higher level of combat aviation, more modern. Polish brothers understand us in this," said the Head of State.
During the meeting, the parties discussed economic and infrastructural issues, as well as opportunities for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"We discussed issues regarding our Polish and Ukrainian farmers. We found a way out. I believe that in the coming days and weeks we will finally resolve all issues, because there cannot be any complications between such close partners and true friends as Poland and Ukraine," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President also thanked the Polish people for the key logistical importance of Poland, as military, energy, medical and humanitarian aid from all over the world is delivered to Ukraine through Polish roads and Polish ports.
"Together with Mateusz, we noted achievements in cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish railways. In particular, the launch of a new Lviv - Warsaw railway connection via Rava-Rus'ka. We expect that the connection will be fully operational in the coming months," the President said.
During the negotiations, further steps to bring Ukraine closer to the European Union and support for these steps by the Polish government were discussed.
"And one more thing that needs maximum attention. We are looking for a solution to return the Ukrainian children who were forcibly abducted and deported by our enemy - the Russian Federation. Our Polish brothers are ready to help Ukraine in finding and returning the children," the Head of State said.
He expressed gratitude for the joint initiative of Poland and the European Commission to find and return the children whom the Russian state is trying to deprive of their family, country and national identity.
“It is very important that we resist this form of Russian aggression together with Poland as well - and they have many forms of aggression. Ukraine and Poland are together forever,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
For his part, Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized that from the first day of the full-scale invasion of Russia, Poland resolutely stood with Ukraine, and Ukrainians clearly wrote their program for the future with their own blood.
"They want to be in NATO, they want to be part of the EU, and Poland is very supportive of these aspirations. Because we know: when Ukraine is in NATO, we will be safer," he is convinced.
The Prime Minister of Poland emphasized that today, with their great heroism, the Ukrainian servicemen demonstrate what struggle for independence and European values is.
"You are the shield of Poland, the shield of the whole of Europe," said Mateusz Morawiecki.
The head of the Polish government declared that there can be no discussion of an agreement with fierce, barbaric Russia.
"It is up to Ukraine to define acceptable conditions of peace and security," he emphasized.
According to Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland is discussing with European partners and the US how to build a new security architecture.
The Prime Minister noted that Russia, with the help of its propaganda, continues to try to provoke a discord between Poland and Ukraine, which cannot be allowed. According to him, Ukrainian-Polish cooperation has a special character, and during the negotiations, problematic issues are raised, in particular, regarding Ukrainian grain and other agricultural products on the Polish market.
Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized that the Poles are well aware how valuable freedom and solidarity are, that is why they strongly support the Ukrainian people in the fight against the Russian aggressor.
"Russia has already lost the war and the struggle for Ukrainian souls. I am convinced that Russia will also lose this war for Ukraine. And in the end, it will lose the war for dominance in our region," he concluded.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mateusz Morawiecki also examined samples of military equipment that Poland plans to transfer to Ukraine.
In addition, the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Poland laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw. The head of the Ukrainian state, in the presence of the head of the Polish government, got himself acquainted with the history of the memorial and left a note in the Book of Memory.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mateusz Morawiecki also put icon lamps at the monument to the victims of the 2010 Smolensk tragedy and at the monument to Lech Kaczyński, the President of Poland in 2005-2010.
