The united stance of Ukraine, Europe, and the United States must become the force that will help ensure a guaranteed peace. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized this during his address at the G7 leaders' meeting.
The event was also attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa.
President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the G7 countries for their support in Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.
"From the very start of this war, we have wanted peace and now more than ever we believe that real and lasting peace is possible – if we stand together," the President emphasized.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it is very important that the strongest defenders of freedom – the United States, Europe and Ukraine – work together to achieve a guaranteed peace.
"A real peace agreement can be reached, one that not only stops the killings today but also prevents the deaths of thousands of our people in Russian captivity, in occupied territories, and from future attacks," he stated.
The President also emphasized that if Ukraine remains outside NATO, it will be a much more expensive and complicated path for everyone.
"So we must choose the right path – the fastest and most cost-effective one – and this should be our path, not what Putin has imposed on everyone. Security guarantees are needed for peace to prevail," he said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that Ukrainian and American teams are actively working on a new economic agreement and stressed that continued support from the United States is of critical importance to Ukraine.
