Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Ukraine is one of the first in the world to introduce digital passports

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the online presentation of introduction of digital ID-passport and biometric travel passport in the mobile application "Diia".

The Head of State recalled that in early February, this mobile application was presented with access to digital driver's licenses and car registration licenses, and it was the first important step in the implementation of “A state in a smartphone” strategy.

"It has only been two months, and today we are making the second, no less important and revolutionary step - presenting a digital passport of a citizen of Ukraine and a foreign passport, which are now also available in our application," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The President stressed that Ukraine was the tenth country in the world to introduce digital driver's licenses and car registration licenses.

“We will now become one of the first to implement digital passports, and exactly the first to grant them the same legal force as of plastic or paper ones. Ukraine is modern, Ukraine is technological. And we prove it every day,” the Head of State said.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, today Ukrainians have the ability to use their passport on their smartphone in many situations: from showing it to the police during quarantine to receiving banking or government services.

"I sincerely believe that after the quarantine is over, the digital passport will become an integral part of life for more than 19.5 million citizens of Ukraine who today have an ID card or a biometric passport of a citizen," the President stressed.
