President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The leaders continued to discuss topical issues on the EU-Ukraine agenda.
The Head of State informed the President of the European Commission of the results of the Normandy summit held on December 9 in Paris, and stressed the importance of the Russian Federation's implementation of the agreements reached.
Ursula von der Leyen commended the efforts made by the Ukrainian side to resume negotiations in the Normandy format and achieve tangible results.
The interlocutors paid special attention to the issue of ensuring uninterrupted gas transit through the gas pipelines of Ukraine and the prospects of concluding a new agreement with the Russian Federation. The parties agreed to continue the relevant work, in particular with the support of the new composition of the European Commission in tripartite format.
In the context of reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a new Extended Fund Facility, the President of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission have agreed on the steps required to allocate the second tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance in the amount of EUR 500 million in the near future.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also suggested finding ways to sign the EU-Ukraine Common Aviation Area Agreement as soon as possible.
