Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Citizens must have a right to own, use and dispose of their own land

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that citizens of Ukraine should receive full, not hybrid, ownership of their land.

"It is very important: “full” means the right to own, use and dispose of your land. Otherwise we will have the Soviet Union. When citizens allegedly received their apartments but could not sell them legally. And that is wrong. What happened as a result? Illegal "gray" schemes and fraud. The same thing is happening with the land now,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during his speech at the conference on the land management reform “Land as a Factor in the Development of the Ukrainian Rural Area”.

The President reminded that after the introduction of the land sale moratorium in 2001, MPs had to develop a transparent mechanism for the sale and purchase of land, but the parliament has not done so yet.

"Instead of a mechanism, a large-scale shadow market has emerged. It is one million hectares of land and tens of billions of hryvnias. And it is beneficial not for a small farmer, a simple peasant, but for local so-called land princes. Moreover, of seven million Ukrainians who own the land, almost one million citizens have already died without receiving a chance from the state to become wealthy owners of their land,” he said.

The Head of State emphasizes that the topic of the land market should be discussed with the public in order to dispel all the myths and manipulations that have been sown in the minds of citizens over the last 20 years.
