As part of the participation in the Eastern Partnership Summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša signed a Declaration in support of the European perspective of our country.
The document identifies priority areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Slovenia within the strategic course of our country to gain full membership in the European Union.
The Joint Declaration states that, in accordance with Article 49 of the Treaty on European Union, Ukraine, like any European State which respects and is committed to promoting the values enshrined in Article 2 of this Treaty, may apply for membership in the European Union in the event of compliance with all conditions and obligations.
The document confirms the significant progress made by our country in the context of the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, as well as the willingness to continue reforms. At the same time, Slovenia will support the relevant efforts of Ukraine, in particular on further reforms towards decentralization.
With the signing of a joint Declaration at the level of the President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovenian party’s support for the European perspective of our country is being recorded.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the Prime Minister of Slovenia for his strong support for Ukraine's European integration strategy and for the important practical assistance from Slovenian partners in the process of implementing domestic reforms.
He also highlighted the success of Slovenia's presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2021, during which the EU-Ukraine Summit took place and the Common Aviation Area Agreement was signed.
In addition, the interlocutors noted the positive dynamics of bilateral trade and discussed promising investment projects in Ukraine and Slovenia.
