On May 20, during the solemn session of the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv, newly elected President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy was sworn in as Head of State. With his hand on the Constitution of Ukraine and Peresopnytske Gospel, Volodymyr Zelenskyy took the oath of office.
“I, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, elected President of Ukraine by the will of the people, entering this high office, solemnly swear allegiance to Ukraine. I commit myself to protect sovereignty and independence of Ukraine with all my deeds, to care for the good of the Homeland and the welfare of the Ukrainian people, to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, to observe the Constitution of Ukraine and the laws of Ukraine, to fulfill my duties in the interests of all Ukrainians, to raise the authority of Ukraine in the world," the newly elected President said.
The certificate of the President of Ukraine was handed over to him by Head of the Central Election Commission Tetiana Slipachuk. He also received the official symbols of the President of Ukraine - the Sign of the President of Ukraine, the Seal of the President of Ukraine and the Presidential Mace.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy went to the parliament on foot from the Mariyinsky Park, where he spoke with supporters.
The ceremony of inauguration was attended by former presidents of Ukraine - Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma, Viktor Yushchenko, Petro Poroshenko, former Speakers of the Verkhovna Rada, government representatives, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, representatives of churches and foreign guests. In particular, President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili, President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Hungary János Áder, as well as representatives of the United States, Canada, France, Poland, Turkey, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria.
The ceremony was also attended by representatives of NATO and the European Union.
Parents of Volodymyr Zelenskyy - Rymma Volodymyrivna and Oleksandr Semenovych, as well as his wife Olena watched the inauguration from the loge of guests of honour.
