Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Sanctions against Russia must remain until restoration of peace in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that sanctions were an efficient “weapon” of diplomacy as the only way to end the war in Donbas and restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

“Those who bravely defend Ukraine must come back victorious. We must end the war and reclaim our territories. But I have repeatedly said that the only way to do this is diplomacy. Its powerful and effective weapon is sanctions,” the President of Ukraine said during a speech at the 16th annual meeting of the Yalta European Strategy, which takes place at the Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that sanctions against the Russian Federation should remain until peace is restored in the Ukrainian state.

“I keep repeating to all our global partners who help us, but sometimes think about lifting sanctions. You lose money? Seriously? Sorry, we lose people. You know, paying taxes is normal in a civilized world. In particular, to maintain order. Sanctions are, in fact, the same taxes required for the world order. If you like, it's a tax for the sake of peace. And until peace is restored, sanctions must remain,” the President of Ukraine stressed.
