President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.

The parties discussed measures taken in Ukraine and Lithuania to counter the spread of coronavirus and minimize the impact of the pandemic on citizens.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed Gitanas Nausėda of the current security situation in Donbas. The President of Ukraine expressed deep concern over the gross violation of the comprehensive truce by the illegal armed groups, which took place on September 6 and resulted in the death of a Ukrainian serviceman. As a result of the enemy shelling, another serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was wounded.

The President of Ukraine told the President of Lithuania about the course of the negotiation process in the Normandy format.

"I hope that after the meeting of the advisers to the leaders of the "Normandy Four" we will understand when the meeting of the leaders of these countries should take place. We all need to make efforts to achieve peace," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

He thanked official Vilnius and personally Gitanas Nausėda for the continued support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The interlocutors paid special attention to the issue of preparation for the 22nd Ukraine-EU Summit, which is scheduled for October 1, 2020 in Brussels. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the Ukrainian party's willingness to maximize the effectiveness of the Summit and intensify its relevant work with EU structures and EU member states for this purpose.

"Among the main results of the Summit, I see confirmation of recognition of Ukraine's European aspirations and reaching agreements to start work on renewing the trade part of the Association Agreement, as it no longer reflects the economic realities of Ukraine and the EU," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Gitanas Nausėda expressed hope that during the presidency of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine will do everything to become a member of the European Union. He noted that our country demonstrates leadership among the Eastern Partnership countries.

The interlocutors discussed priority measures of bilateral political dialogue. The parties noted their joint readiness to hold a regular meeting of the Council of Presidents of Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania at the end of this year in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Gitanas Nausėda also exchanged views on the development of the situation in Belarus. The President of Ukraine drew attention to the common approaches of Ukraine and the European Union in assessing the Belarusian domestic political crisis.
