President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone call with Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni.
On the eve of an important European Council meeting on December 14-15 in Brussels, the parties coordinated their positions and discussed Ukraine's progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations necessary to open negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that Ukraine's efforts to launch negotiations would be fairly assessed and that the EU leaders would make a corresponding historic decision.
"Ukraine has fulfilled its part of the commitments. We have once again proved that we are able to achieve impressive results on our way to the EU despite unprecedented challenges. I believe that unity will prevail at tomorrow's meeting of the European Council and the European Union will reaffirm its strength and leadership," the Head of State said.
The parties exchanged views on the implementation of the points of the Peace Formula, as well as on the preparation of the Global Peace Summit.
