President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Kristalina Georgieva for supporting Ukraine in the difficult year of the pandemic: "The $ 2.1 billion tranche we received helped us support people, SMEs, our medical industry during several lockdown periods".
The parties discussed the progress in the implementation of the current IMF Stand-By program, namely Ukraine’s implementation of key structural beacons envisaged by the program. In particular, 2 key bills aimed at strengthening corporate governance in banks, amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the High Council of Justice", the Law of Ukraine "On the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine" and more.
The interlocutors discussed the terms and conditions of providing Ukraine with the next tranche of the IMF.
The President of Ukraine stressed: "Ukraine's position remains unchanged - relations with the IMF are very important for us and we will continue to implement agreements with international partners".
The interlocutors exchanged views on the progress of reforms and institutional changes taking place in Ukraine, including the launch of the land market, infrastructure reforms and the de-oligarchization bill approved by the parliament in the first reading.
The President noted that he keeps the implementation of the judicial reform under personal control and makes every effort to implement it successfully.
The parties discussed the draft law on the National Bank of Ukraine, which is currently being elaborated with the participation of international partners and will be considered by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine after the resumption of its work in autumn this year, as well as the approval of the NABU Law in the second reading.
The pace of Ukraine's economic recovery, including the fulfillment of the state budget of Ukraine and specific indicators of its growth, were discussed separately. Agreements were reached on intensifying the joint work of representatives of the Ukrainian government and the IMF.
The President of Ukraine invited the Managing Director of the IMF to visit Ukraine and personally discuss further steps of productive cooperation.
