Volodymyr Zelenskyy holds meeting on strengthening sustainability of democracy in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with representatives of the Government of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor's office, and anti-corruption agencies, at which the concept of strengthening the sustainability of democracy in Ukraine was discussed.

The Head of State said that along with today's most important challenge of repelling the aggression of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian authorities must also work on overcoming external and internal threats and implementing other elements, in particular, ensuring justice for our citizens.

For this, as Zelenskyy pointed out, steps are needed to make it possible ensuring the implementation of justice that people will feel.

"Such measures are extremely necessary and should have very concrete manifestations in state policy," the President said.

In view of this, the meeting participants proposed that a concept of strengthening the sustainability of democracy in Ukraine is prepared and a step-by-step plan for its implementation is developed.

In response, the Head of State said that the measures contained in the concept should apply to absolutely everything: the protection of Ukraine's national security, the final elimination of oligarchic and corrupt influence, and so on.

The President thanked the law enforcement officers for all the work they have done, especially for the results of the past months.

"We see very clearly that there is no future for oligarchic clans in Ukraine. This is evident from those criminal cases pursued by law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies. This should yield long-term results," Zelenskyy said.

In addition, according to the President's conviction, the state must provide long-term effective guarantees that, regardless of the developments in Russia, Ukraine will be protected from activities aimed at undermining democracy within our country.

"We must protect our state, system, our values, above all, freedom and democracy," he said.

The meeting participants also agreed that the concept should contain steps toward supporting the development of competition, de-monopolization and fair distribution of resources, development of transparent mechanisms of interaction with the state.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada and other public authorities must take a series of steps to strengthen parliamentarism and the ability of voters to influence state's governance, enhance the institutional capacities of public authorities, including law enforcement agencies, the prosecutor's office and anti-corruption agencies, develop the judiciary, implement equality policy guarantees in relations between the state and all economic entities, expand the opportunities for Ukrainian citizens to influence political decisions and the course of the state, and more.

"Justice is important to us. There is a corresponding political will. And thanks to the systematic and coordinated work of public institutions in Ukraine, as well as the support of civil society, I am sure we can implement all this," the President concluded.

Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, Chairman of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, Head of the National Police of Ukraine Ivan Vyhivsky, Head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine Pavlo Kyrylenko, Deputy Prosecutor General, Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Oleksandr Klymenko, Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine Semen Kryvonos, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Maliuk, Minister of Justice of Ukraine Denys Maliuska, Head of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention Oleksandr Novikov, acting Director of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine Andriy Paschuk, and Director of the State Bureau of Investigation Oleksiy Sukhachev attended the meeting.
