President Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha to the staff of the Ministry.
The Head of State noted that since the first hours of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Andrii Sybiha has been doing everything possible to ensure that Ukrainian diplomacy could achieve all state goals.
According to him, the standard for Ukrainian diplomats abroad should be a deep understanding of the host country. This is how our country's representation abroad should function.
Another priority mentioned by Volodymyr Zelenskyy is to pay more attention to relations with Ukraine's neighboring countries.
“We understand how difficult the political process is, for example, now in Poland. Moreover, a new election process is about to begin there. We understand the situation in Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, Romania. All this requires sensitivity, perseverance and protection of Ukrainian interests, as well as our common interests with our neighbors,” the Head of State stressed.
The President also noted that Ukraine should be heard and known in all regions of the world. Much has already been done for this purpose, but more is needed. In particular, he emphasized the need to intensify work in Latin America, Africa and countries of Asia.
The urgent needs of the frontline and ensuring the resilience of the entire state are crucial issues. The announced defense packages should be delivered as quickly as possible.
“Our partners should know our every need and every opportunity for cooperation with them. Supplying the front, joint defense production, reconstruction in Ukraine, strengthening sanctions against Russia and the use of Russian assets for Ukrainian defense, support for our communities abroad – these should be the areas of constant work of every Ukrainian diplomat,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State noted that Ukraine needs an effective second Peace Summit this year.
“Everyone should understand that peace for Ukraine and a just end to this war is not only a historic mission, but daily and very hard work. I am confident that Ukraine is capable of doing this work – winning this war and ensuring peace,” he said.
Andrii Sybiha thanked the President for his trust and assured him that the MFA would work for results.
“The set priorities are clear. We will ensure them continuously, persistently – consistently, proactively, strongly, with new staff, with new approaches. Where necessary, we will do so diplomatically. Where necessary, we will be tough,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
Andrii Sybiha noted that the entire work of Ukrainian diplomacy will be subordinated to the logic of victory, achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace.
Integration into NATO and the EU will also be an absolute priority.
“And, of course, people. We will pay special attention to the protection of people's rights and interests,” the Minister concluded.
