While on a working trip to Bukovyna, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy checked the state of implementation of works to eliminate the consequences of the emergency situation that occurred in June this year in the Chernivtsi region.
In the summer, floods damaged 31 hydraulic structures and 17 bridges, 51 settlements, 1,750 houses, 3,776 wells, 819 basements, 3,642 homesteads were flooded, and 2,818 hectares of agricultural land were damaged. In addition, 136 people were evicted from the flood zone, including 42 children. Three people died.
UAH 465.6 million was allocated to eliminate the consequences of the emergency situation. Of these, almost UAH 13 million of material assistance to the population has already been paid, and UAH 20 million allocated for road infrastructure restoration has been used by 73%. Works are at the final stage.
"We are addressing these consequences together with the communities. UTCs, district state administrations - all together liquidate them,” Head of the Chernivtsi regional state administration Serhiy Osachuk said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the fact that people were paid 100% of the compensation. However, he noted that local authorities should use funds faster if they are allocated by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The head of the region said that the issue of allocating funds has accelerated significantly after the personal intervention of the President.
"You are changing the system of government and the format of government. But at the same time I want to say frankly that a factor such as your personal arrival in the area, accelerates a lot of processes that may be stuck somewhere. This also applies to flood funds," Serhiy Osachuk said.
Residents of the village of Roztoky asked Volodymyr Zelenskyy to pay attention to the need for shore protection. This, together with the construction of roads, will promote the development of tourism and, consequently, will keep people from deciding to go abroad to earn money.
"There will be tourism. People will come to rest. They will come as soon as there are roads. Tourism will create jobs," the President of Ukraine stressed.
At the same time, local residents were very grateful to the President for taking personal control over the assistance after the flood, as they were able to obtain compensation quickly.
