President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Latvia Evika Siliņa.
The Head of State spoke about the situation on the battlefield, as well as efforts to repair the energy infrastructure and restore power supply to people after today's large-scale shelling by Russia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Latvia for all the defense assistance provided, noting that Ukraine needs training and equipping of brigades by its allies, following the example of France and the United States. Such steps can contribute not only to achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, but also to ensuring security for all of Europe.
The President added that the Baltic and Nordic countries could play a joint role in training and equipping the brigades, and the JEF military partnership could help with coordination. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, our state is interested in becoming a full member of this alliance.
One of the topics discussed at the meeting was Ukraine's European integration. The President stressed that Ukraine is ready to take all the necessary steps for the simultaneous launch of negotiating clusters next year and expects full support from Latvia.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Evika Siliņa agreed that a just end to the war is possible if Ukraine is in the strongest position, with a sufficient number of equipped brigades, strong air defense capabilities, and certainty regarding integration into the EU and NATO.
