President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the presentation of the newly appointed Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrskyi to the staff of the Ministry. Earlier on Friday, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Denys Monastyrskyi as head of the Interior Ministry.
"I would like to congratulate Denys Anatoliyovych Monastyrskyi on this very important trust from the parliament, the Prime Minister and the President. We really wanted you to become a minister, to be supported by MPs. It is very important for the leadership of the state to trust the ministers, and first of all the leadership of law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Internal Affairs," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with the new head and staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Head of State stressed that as a citizen of Ukraine he wants to trust law enforcement agencies and be proud of every law enforcement officer. He expressed the belief that many officers faithfully serve their country and their people, protecting the peace and security of citizens. In addition, many of them, along with representatives of other military formations, defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the east.
"Trust and respect - that's what I want. I would like all our children to trust the Ukrainian police. Because true heroes and knights of peace are among you. It is very important for us all to be proud of our National Police, our law enforcement agencies. It seems to me that this is the most important task for the new Minister of the Interior. And this task is not from the President or the government, it is a task from a citizen of Ukraine," the President added.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal noted that working as a Minister of Internal Affairs and a member of the Cabinet of Ministers is not only a great honor, but also a great responsibility, because the Ministry of Internal Affairs is responsible for protecting citizens both inside the country and from the external aggression.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Denys Monastyrskyi has been the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement since 2020.
"I am confident that Mr. Monastyrskyi's experience will be a great basis for the continuation of the successful work of the ministry and the growth of trust mentioned by the President," said Denys Shmyhal.
The newly appointed head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs thanked for the trust. "I believe that trust in law enforcement agencies is first and foremost," he said.
The Minister of Internal Affairs also focused on the priorities in his work - the fight against organized crime, which will be based on the law on "thieves in law" and sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council, the development of the National Police, including the patrol police and the Community Police Officer project.
Denys Monastyrskyi also stressed the need to improve road safety and halve the number of occasions of death on the road in five years due to the system of automatic detection of traffic violations.
"I understand that not everything will happen at once. But the process we will start will be visible to the whole society. Thank you for your great trust," he concluded.
