A Council for the Development of General Secondary Education will be established under the President of Ukraine. The relevant decree will be published today. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the forum "Education of Ukraine 2021: Strategic Goals and Priorities", which began in Kyiv on Tuesday.
The Head of State noted that education and science are strategically important areas for Ukraine, although for many years the state has not paid enough attention to this sphere.
"Today we are doing everything we can to change this approach. We are actively building and repairing kindergartens across the country... We are also renovating and building new modern schools in each region. And this process will be continued, because we want each of our Ukrainian schools - both in a million-plus city and in a small village - to have a modern material and technical base, to have quality and healthy food, Internet access, infrastructure for sports, for inclusive education," the President stressed.
In addition, salaries for educators have been raised this year, and the government will continue to seek mechanisms and means to make educators feel the prestige of their profession.
The Head of State also stressed the need to support gifted and talented children. Therefore, a decree was recently signed, which established a number of scholarships and prizes of the President for gifted children, as well as grants for education in leading countries.
“Vocational and technical education is also an important area for us today. Over the years, it has actually been forgotten and, we can say, almost destroyed. As a result, today our country is catastrophically short of skilled workers. Therefore, together with the representatives of this unit, a strategy was created and the revival of vocational education in Ukraine began,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
As for higher education, in accordance with the President's decree, the government is preparing a strategy for its development for the next 10 years, a state program for the restoration and development of a network of student dormitories, and a plan to promote education in Ukraine among foreigners.
"We will fight for our excellent students, for foreign students. Ukrainian universities must train people competitive in the modern world," the President stressed.
"I want to assure you - in the person of the President of Ukraine, our education will always have a reliable ally. A lobbyist for the interests of our educators, if you will. For my part, I am ready to help implement all your initiatives, all your steps, all reforms for the development of Ukrainian education. In this context, I would like to announce that a decree on the establishment of a Council for the Development of General Secondary Education under the President will be published today. I know that you have been waiting for this step for a long time, and it will be taken today," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
