During the talks between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the European Council Charles Michel, a wide range of issues on the agenda were discussed.
The parties focused on EU assistance opportunities to minimize the time of delivery of vaccines to Ukraine.
Charles Michel assured that the EU is trying to show the strongest possible solidarity with Ukraine, because we have not only common interests, but also common values. The President of the European Council noted the perseverance of Ukraine under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in reforming the country. The interlocutors discussed in detail the anticorruption and judicial reforms, the situation with the Constitutional Court.
"Judicial reform will be completed and will be transparent and fair. So that every Ukrainian can trust the courts and see that they function to protect their interests and laws," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The situation in Donbas and Crimea was discussed separately. The President of Ukraine thanked for the sanctions. Charles Michel reaffirmed that Russia is not a mediator but a party to the conflict.
The issue of the Nord Stream 2 was also discussed. The President of the European Council noted the importance of the energy issue for Europe, among other things for the security of Eastern European countries. The parties reaffirmed their common vision of energy security and the construction of the Nord Stream 2.
The interlocutors discussed preparations for the Ukraine-EU Summit to be held in Kyiv this year. Both parties noted the success of last year's Summit. The President thanked for the first tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 600 million euros.
In addition, the issue of revision of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU was raised. The Ukrainian party noted the effectiveness of work in this direction - the beginning of the revision has already been legally recorded to achieve Ukraine's ambition to become a leader in the region and in the future - EU membership. In particular, it is about the protection of Ukrainian SMEs in the European Union, as well as cooperation in digitization and climate change.
