Relations between Ukraine and the United Kingdom are now closer than ever. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement following negotiations with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who visited Ukraine for the first time in his role as Prime Minister.
According to the President, Ukraine and the UK have reached a new level of relations by signing a One Hundred Year Partnership Agreement.
"We are confident in the independence of our state, and that is something Ukrainians will never relinquish. We are confident in our European partners, and this is what strengthens Ukraine, the UK, and our entire Euro-Atlantic space. This is the foundation for cooperation between our nations for generations to come," the President said.
Air defense forces were operating in Kyiv during the leaders' talks. This, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, highlights the most important task: to strengthen Ukraine's air shield, army, navy, and cybersecurity.
"We have agreed on at least $3.6 billion in annual military aid for Ukraine – for as long as it is needed. Additionally, decisions have been prepared for $3 billion from Russian assets. In total, just for this year, we will secure $6.6 billion from the United Kingdom," the President added.
The President also emphasized that the United Kingdom supports Ukraine's accession to NATO, which is the best security guarantee not only for our country but also for the entire Euro-Atlantic area.
“We state it crystal clear: a just and lasting peace comes through strength. We are working with allies to repel aggression, uphold international law, and strengthen you now. In 2025, the United Kingdom will provide more military aid to Ukraine than ever before," UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated.
Keir Starmer announced that the UK would provide Ukraine with 150 artillery barrels and a new mobile air defense system developed by the UK and co-funded by Denmark. The UK will also continue training Ukrainian soldiers.
"The history of the 21st century is being defined now. Our strength today means setting it on the right path," he concluded.
Following the negotiations and the signed agreement, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Keir Starmer instructed relevant government bodies to work on key thematic areas within the framework of the High-Level Strategic Dialogue.
