President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the key tasks in the judicial reform during a meeting with the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, the Cabinet of Ministers and the law enforcement bodies.
The Head of State noted that the Parliament had not yet passed a law on the impossibility of blocking the work of the Supreme Anticorruption Court with an excessive number of cases. "I am hopeful that it will do it in the next few days," Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President also stressed the importance of an effective work of the Anticorruption Court. "Ukrainian society demands a fast and high-quality consideration of cases against top corrupt officials from the Anticorruption Court," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President added that most of the economic setbacks in Ukraine were on the conscience of unscrupulous judges. “Due to an ineffective judicial reform, we have not achieved the reboot of the judiciary, its renewal. On the contrary, the previous government did everything to make judges depend on it alone. Only decisive actions can make law to be enforced. Such decisive actions are to deprive those who are not worthy of the high rank of judge of the judicial robe every week,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
The President stressed that the purge should apply to all courts, but above all, to the higher courts. "The courts of first instance must be filled with new judges: more than 2000 vacancies must have been filled by the new year," the Head of State said.
According to him, this should be done by the new High Qualification Commission of Judges, which will be restarted shortly, according to the draft law submitted by the President.
Separately, the Head of State emphasized the importance of elimination of large-scale corruption schemes in some public authorities. “Carry out full staffing reboot of the most corrupt state agencies for business and citizens - State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre, State Service for Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine, State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate, State Environmental Protection Service, State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety and State Agency of Automobile Roads by January 1, 2020. If possible, please, do it faster,” the President addressed Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk.
