At the initiative of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet presented a strategy for the development of the education sector for 2021.
The official focused on continuing education reform and, among other things, spoke about the achievements. In particular, a new version of the basic component of preschool education was approved. 24 kindergartens have been opened, 16 of which - in the framework of the National Large Construction Program. 13,268 additional places in kindergartens have been created.
"The main goal of state policy in this area is to provide affordable and quality preschool education, which is a starting platform for personal development of the child and preparation for the study in the New Ukrainian School," Serhiy Shkarlet said at the forum "Education of Ukraine 2021: Strategic Goals and Priorities”.
The state standard of basic secondary education has also been approved. UAH 600 million has been allocated for the purchase of school buses. The reform of the New Ukrainian School is underway. The best participants in the external independent testing will receive a presidential scholarship - 10 thousand hryvnias. Also, the best students will receive grants from the President of Ukraine to study abroad. The number of schools with Internet access has increased.
"We strive to motivate our children and youth to study, develop, realize their own inclinations, abilities and talents and encourage them for intellectual, creative and other achievements. I would like to express my gratitude to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy for the fact that he fully supports the sphere of education and science," Serhiy Shkarlet said.
First Lady Olena Zelenska spoke about the school nutrition reform, which is being implemented under her patronage.
For the first time, the budget financed the purchase of equipment for special schools and training and rehabilitation centers.
The access of entrants living in the temporarily occupied territories to Ukrainian higher education institutions has been expanded and higher education standards have been approved. The bill "On Adult Education" has been developed.
In 2021, Ukraine will launch a single interdepartmental electronic platform for enrolling foreign students.
Also, the Concept of the state program of restoration and development of the dormitory network should be approved this year.
"I believe that together we will be able to bring our education to a new level. I believe that together we will implement a simple formula "Happy teachers. Happy children. Happy parents. Happy Ukraine". I believe that the evaluation of our joint work will be solid 12 points!" the Head of State summed up.
