The agreement signed between Ukraine and the United Kingdom is historic, as it is the first time our country has signed a document on cooperation for 100 years. This was stated by the Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, during the “United News” telethon.
He emphasized that the agreement focuses on collaboration to strengthen defense capabilities, including the production of Ukrainian weapons, the creation of a joint flotilla, the protection and restoration of Ukrainian heritage damaged or destroyed by Russia, and the training of Ukrainian military personnel in the UK.
Andriy Yermak noted that the UK has confirmed Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO membership and committed to increasing sanctions against the Russian economy.
“There are some very interesting new agreements, such as the coordination of joint actions, including military actions, when necessary. Of course, this requires further work to fully implement this mechanism, but the fact that it has already been formalized and these provisions are being integrated into our bilateral relations is absolutely unprecedented. This once again demonstrates that we are moving from cooperation to alliance. This agreement is the first of its kind and historic, but I am confident it won’t be the last,” he said.
The Head of the Office of the President also expressed gratitude to the United States, the UK, and other partner countries for the recent sanctions package. He stressed that it is important not only to tighten sanctions but also to identify loopholes that Russia uses to bypass them. In particular, Ukraine hopes that the policies of President Trump’s new administration will focus on regulating oil prices. Andriy Yermak added that constructive cooperation is already being established between the two teams.
He also shared that in Poland, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held successful talks with the Prime Minister and the President. During Poland and Denmark’s EU Council Presidencies this year, Ukraine aims to open the maximum number of negotiation clusters with the European Union.
Additionally, the Head of the Office of the President mentioned ongoing discussions with partners about French President Emmanuel Macron’s initiative for a peacekeeping contingent.
