President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the Associated Trio project launched on July 19 together with Georgia and Moldova should bring the three countries closer to full EU membership, and the next step in this direction should be to recognize the European perspective of these countries.
“The Associated Trio should bring our countries closer to full membership in the European Union. We expect Poland, Romania and our other partners, our friends, and the EU Member States to support this initiative. On this path, the next important step should be the recognition of the European perspective of the Associated Trio. Ukraine has already started relevant work with each EU country separately," he said in a statement following a multilateral meeting with the Presidents of Moldova, Romania and Poland in Chișinău.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda for the fact that Poland was one of the first to fix its support for Ukraine's European perspective in a bilateral declaration.
"I really hope that we will soon sign a similar declaration with the President of Romania. In general, I am convinced that the seriousness of the EU's intentions in this matter should be evidenced by the forthcoming Eastern Partnership summit," the Ukrainian President stressed.
The President also thanked Poland, Moldova and Romania for supporting the Crimea Platform initiative and participating in its founding summit on August 23, which launched a major and ambitious goal - the deoccupation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.
"I said that the Crimea Platform could become a platform for finding ways of deoccupation of other territories and resolving other regional conflicts as well. Only by joining forces, our states become stronger and can achieve the desired result faster," Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced.
He also noted that Ukraine is interested and ready to be an active participant in regional projects, especially the Three Seas Initiative.
"Ukraine's geographical location makes it a natural partner of this initiative. And as a maritime state and an associate member of the European Union, Ukraine will make it more full-fledged and efficient for the whole region," the Ukrainian President summed up.
