The pace of spread of coronavirus infection is being stabilized in Ukraine - President

In Ukraine, there is a certain stabilization of the situation with the spread of coronavirus infection. This is evidenced by the decrease in the number of hospitalizations over the past week, Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said during a traditional conference call chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported statistics: 612 people were infected and 385 recovered in the last 24 hours. Today in Ukraine there are more than 26 thousand active patients. The leaders among the identified infected are the Lviv (99 people) and Zakarpattia (79 people) regions.

Head of the National Police Ihor Klymenko reported on the fining of institutions that do not comply with quarantine restrictions. Over the last days the activity of 143 entertaining establishments, in particular night clubs and food establishments, was stopped. 102 administrative protocols were drawn up.

In addition, the decision was adopted to deport eight foreigners who organized shooting in central Kyiv last week. Also, Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov said that the parliament is considering the bill № 2695 "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine to Strengthen Liability for Certain Offenses in the Sphere of Road Safety", which increases the responsibility of drivers for fatal accidents under the influence of alcohol intoxication. In particular, the bill increases fines for driving under the influence of alcohol, introduces fines for leaving the scene of an accident, and reduces the scope for manipulation to avoid liability. The adoption of this bill will also help prevent offenses in the field of road safety, promote more restrained and balanced behavior of drivers on the roads and, consequently, reduce the number of accidents, the representative of the Ministry of the Interior noted.

The urgency of the adoption of this bill is due to the number of violations and serious accidents caused by drunk drivers, as well as the ease of avoiding responsibility.

"The accident on Stolychne Highway near Kyiv is the latest terrible example of negligence and irresponsibility of some drivers. Two adults and two children died. Our doctors are fighting for the life of another boy. And this is not the first accident caused by this driver. This bill is extremely important. Legislative responsibility for such cases is a guarantee that the state stands for ensuring the safety of every family and every Ukrainian," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
