Ukraine must have a modern and safe infrastructure - President

The development of infrastructure and energy sector was discussed at a meeting chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which was attended by Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, Deputy Heads of the Office of the President Yulia Svyrydenko and Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy, Acting Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Vitrenko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and HCS Andriy Gerus, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure Yuriy Kisel, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Kyrylo Kryvolap.

"Ukraine must have a modern and safe infrastructure, integrated into the world transport system, which ensures high mobility of the population. It was part of my election program, and Ukrainians support it," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy told how the road infrastructure is being modernized and brought to the level of EU standards.

"Pursuant to your initiative, we are working to carry out the overhaul of the infrastructure. Road construction is carried out according to European standards. We are introducing automatic control of vehicle’s weight and speed, rebuilding airports, working as a team to sign an Open Skies agreement with the EU. Also, our goal is to eliminate monopoly in the transport system," Vladyslav Krykliy said.

He further stressed that his ministry is working to increase the share of inland waterway transport, liberalize, digitize transport services markets, simplify working conditions for businesses and expand access to services for citizens. The Minister also noted that the goal of modern Ukraine is environmentally friendly transport. Vladyslav Krykliy focused on the project of equipping the main tourist routes of Ukraine with electric charging stations.

The parties also discussed the provision of lighting for Ukrainian highways and roads. In this regard, the Ministry of Infrastructure will cooperate with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry.

Speaking about the development of Ukraine's energy sector, the President noted: “An independent energy system, cheap energy - this is the main goal to which Ukraine aspires. Every Ukrainian should feel energy security and receive socially fair bills for energy services".

Acting Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Vitrenko noted that he works closely with the Ministry of Digital Transformation to create affordable and efficient e-services for consumers. He also stressed that Ukraine will bring energy efficiency to a new quality level and will actively work on integration with the European Union in this area.

"Ukrainian consumers should feel the protection of the state, which will provide quality service and help pay tariffs. I am also sure that we will see a qualitatively new level of integration into the EU," Yuriy Vitrenko said.
