Deputy Head of the Office of the President Iryna Mudra and Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin held an inter-ministerial meeting on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Defense Intelligence, and the National Police.
The discussion focused on the importance of ratifying the Rome Statute to enhance Ukraine's efforts in bringing Russian criminals to justice, to strengthen Ukraine's diplomatic position, and to implement European integration and bilateral agreements.
Participants agreed that there are no risks associated with ratification, as Ukraine has already recognized the jurisdiction of the Court. Moreover, the International Criminal Court complements national criminal justice systems, accepting cases only when national courts are unable or unwilling to ensure accountability for certain crimes.
