The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine voted in favor of Ukraine's accession to the Biarritz Partnership for Gender Equality. The accession was initiated by the First Lady Olena Zelenska during a speech at the Third Ukrainian Women's Congress last December.
"This decision is an important step for our country on the path to creating equal opportunities for all Ukrainians. The ministries, people's deputies, international partners and public organizations have jointly done a lot of work already to prepare an action plan to fulfill Ukraine's obligations within the Partnership. But there is still more work to be done to implement it, and building equal opportunities must continue to be a priority for Ukraine as a European state," the President’s wife noted.
Ukraine, as a member of the Biarritz Partnership, undertakes obligations in five spheres:
· Development of barrier-free public space, friendly to families with children and people with limited mobility;
· Teaching children the principles of gender equality;
· Prevention of violence;
· Reducing the pay gap between women and men;
· Creating greater opportunities for men to care for children.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will soon send a corresponding letter from the Government to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic with a statement on Ukraine's participation in the Biarritz Partnership.
