Ukraine and Moldova are united not only by a common border and a common past, but also by a common movement towards full-fledged membership in the European family. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy following the negotiations with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, who is currently on an official visit to Ukraine.
"Our countries are united not only by a common border and a common past, but also by a common movement and a common vision of the future of our countries - as full-fledged members of the European family. This is one of the important theses that was noted today during our talks," he said in a statement following a meeting with Maia Sandu in Kyiv.
According to the President of Ukraine, it is equally important that Ukraine and Moldova are united by common values and positions on key issues of the European agenda and security of the region.
"We highly appreciate that the President of the Republic of Moldova supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and is not afraid to call Crimea Ukrainian," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The President of Ukraine noted that during the talks special attention was paid to the strategic issue of Ukraine's and Moldova's integration into the European Union.
"Membership in the European Union is a truly strategic goal. Our approaches to this issue are completely the same,” he said.
Maia Sandu stressed that during the meeting the parties reaffirmed their common willingness to intensify the implementation of European integration programs by Ukraine and Moldova.
"This path is a strategic option for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, and a reliable way to build a functional state with a modern market economy in the interests of citizens,” the President of Moldova said.
