Ukraine was one of the first to evacuate its citizens and nationals of other countries at risk from Afghanistan. This was emphasized by the President's Press Secretary Serhiy Nykyforov at the briefing.
"Ukraine will do everything possible to evacuate from Kabul all its citizens and nationals of those countries that will ask for help. The President controls it personally. We have repeatedly proved that we do not abandon our people. We can mention the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent release of Ukrainian citizens in Georgia," he said.
Serhiy Nykyforov noted that Ukraine and Turkey helped evacuate the famous Afghan director Sahraa Karimi and her family from Afghanistan. Now she is in Kyiv and has been invited to the summit of first ladies and gentlemen, which will take place on August 23 in the capital of Ukraine.
The President's Press Secretary noted that Ukrainians wishing to leave Afghanistan should apply to Ukraine's diplomatic missions to Tajikistan and Pakistan.
"Now there are about a hundred such appeals. Plus the 12 people who worked under the UN subcontracts on a military base. By the way, they are already safe. Now there are two of our planes in Kabul: one military, one civilian. They are waiting for an opportunity to fly home. We are negotiating on this with all parties," Serhiy Nykyforov said.
