Ukraine and the Czech Republic Started Negotiations on a Bilateral Security Agreement

According to the presidential decree, the Ukrainian negotiating delegation is headed by the Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak. Today's round of talks was led by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva. The Czech side was represented by Director General for Security and Multilateral Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic David Konecký.

"The Czech Republic demonstrates continued leadership in supporting Ukraine and encourages other partners to implement bold and important initiatives, including the supply of ammunition to our country. We also feel the Czech Republic's strong support on the path to Ukraine's future membership in the EU and NATO," emphasized Ihor Zhovkva.

The parties noted progress in drafting the future security agreement, exchanged views on its content, in particular on strengthening cooperation in the defense industry, and agreed on a schedule for further negotiations so that the two leaders could sign the agreement in the near future.

A week ago, during a meeting in Vilnius, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel discussed the readiness to conclude a bilateral security agreement. This is envisaged by the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine signed during the NATO Summit in Vilnius on July 12, 2023.
