Ukraine and Azerbaijan have consistently supported one another in the issues of restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders, as stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Our relations withstood the tests of time. We have always helped one another in difficult moments, very difficult moments of modern history. So, Azerbaijan has been, is and will be a reliable friend for Ukraine, and I am sure that it will be a strategic partner,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after the meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku.
He noted that the negotiations between the Ukrainian and Azerbaijani delegations had taken place in an atmosphere of mutual sincerity and trust.
“An important topic of today's conversation is the provision of regional and national security. First of all, it is about the war in eastern Ukraine and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We invariably support one another in restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity of our states within internationally recognized borders. We will continue to work together in this direction, both bilaterally and in the framework of international organizations,” the President of Ukraine emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed confidence that the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani relations would only be strengthened and reach a new level in the future.
“Our states show close positions on many issues, both regionally and globally. That is why I sincerely wish Azerbaijan a successful presidency in GUAM in 2020,” he said.
For his part, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev noted that the visit of Volodymyr Zelenskyy was a confirmation of the high level of political relations between the two states.
“I consider the visit successful. I am convinced that this visit will be a new impetus and a new page in the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani relations. When discussing specific issues, we have given clear instructions to the relevant ministries and agencies,” he said.
Among other things, the President of Azerbaijan stressed that the states had great potential and opportunities for increasing cooperation in tourism.
"The exchange of experience in this area and the implementation of joint projects have also taken place in the negotiations," Ilham Aliyev said.
