Ukraine and Azerbaijan intensify cooperation in the sphere of international transportation - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukraine and Azerbaijan should develop the potential of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Ukraine supports the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project. Today we have agreed to consider its expansion. This is an important factor in the diversification of gas supply to European consumers,” the Head of State said in a statement to the media following a meeting with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that the decade of successful activity of the Azerbaijani company SOCAR in Ukraine is celebrated on these days and assured that the Ukrainian authorities would fully support the work of the company on oil and gas supply, gas production in Ukraine and other mutually beneficial projects.

In addition, the President stressed the need to develop the transport capabilities of the two countries.

“We should make full use of the unique transit potential of our countries and develop the appropriate infrastructure. We agreed to intensify cooperation in international aviation, road and railway transportation,” the Head of State emphasized.

The parties also agreed to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission of Ukraine and Azerbaijan in January in Kyiv. "I think that there will be specific cases after this meeting, investments with very specific terms," the President said.

Special attention, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was paid to the joint projects in space and aviation sphere, in particular aircraft construction. The parties also discussed prospects in educational, cultural and humanitarian fields.

The President of Azerbaijan, for his part, called today's talks fruitful. He also noted considerable interest of Azerbaijani businessmen in cooperation with Ukraine and stressed that a lot of things depended on the intergovernmental commission in that issue.

Ilham Aliyev noted respect for Ukrainian culture in Azerbaijan. According to him, Baku Slavic University has a Ukrainian language teaching center, and many educational institutions of Ukraine pay attention to the history of Azerbaijan and the study of language. This has a positive impact on the overall picture of relations between the two countries, as stated by Ilham Aliyev.
