Ukraine, in cooperation with partner countries, aims to achieve a full and unconditional ceasefire, which will pave the way for establishing a just and lasting peace. This was stated by the Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, during a meeting of the LB Club. The event was also attended by Deputy Heads of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palisa and Ihor Zhovkva, as well as the Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and Chief Operating Officer of Bring Kids Back UA, Dariia Zarivna.
“It's hard to even talk about an ‘energy truce’ after Kryvyi Rih. We need to talk about a full ceasefire, with very clear monitoring and control. It is important that this control is provided by the Americans, with the involvement of our European partners, if they are ready,” Andriy Yermak noted.
The Head of the Presidential Office believes that 30 days are enough to understand whether the ceasefire is truly working.
Ukraine also insists on one other very important point – the humanitarian track. This involves the release of military and civilian prisoners, as well as the return of illegally deported and displaced Ukrainian children.
Furthermore, Andriy Yermak emphasized that a gradual shift in attitude is already underway among those U.S. representatives who once believed a compromise could be found with Russia. After all, the American partners now see how the aggressor state violates the agreements reached. That is why it is crucial to continue applying pressure on the Russian Federation, including through sanctions. The Head of the Presidential Office highlighted the unanimous position of European countries on this issue during a recent meeting of leaders in Paris.
The discussion also covered the importance of Ukraine primarily relying on the capabilities of its army and domestic defense production to guarantee its own security.
“The most effective security guarantees for Ukraine are modern Defense Forces with a high level of readiness, which ensure that February 24, 2022, will not be repeated, and which, with their combat capabilities, exclude any aggression against Ukraine,” Pavlo Palisa noted.
Consultations are also ongoing regarding the possibility of deploying foreign contingents on our country’s territory. According to the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Ukraine has proposed a corresponding plan to European partners, who are evaluating it from a military perspective and holding the necessary political consultations.
