Ukraine carries out diplomatic work in the case of the National Guard warrior Vitaliy Markiv who was convicted in Italy. This was announced during a briefing by Deputy Heaf of the Office of the President of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko.
"Court cases are rather sensitive thing. We do not want to give weapons to those who say that the Ukrainian authorities are intrusive and oppressive. For this there is a Consul who has the right to speak on behalf of the Ukrainian state in court. All other mechanisms are also used, " Vadym Prystaiko said.
"Ukraine is helping in this court case. Work is conducted not only by lawyers. "Behind the Scenes" is a diplomatic work. Although the Italian authorities is not officially involved, we have repeatedly explained that we will not allow such treatment to our people. Moreover, this case becomes a political one ", Vadym Prystaiko said.
Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine noted that in this case there are specific points that influence the decision of the court. In particular, it is the Italian citizenship of Vitaly Markiv.
"The President knows about this situation, and we are working on it with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with other agencies," he said.
