Ukraine seeks peace in Donbas, but at the same time cares about strengthening the security and defense sector. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a speech during the solemn oath-taking ceremony of lyceum students of Ivan Bohun Military Lyceum of Kyiv.
"Today we are doing everything possible to end the war and not lose our heroes. We are doing everything possible to bring the desired peace to Ukraine. Today is the 80th day since the ceasefire has been announced. And, despite attempts to disrupt it, we hope that the "silence" in eastern Ukraine will be stable and permanent," the President said.
At the same time, he noted that the onset of peace in Ukraine does not mean that the state will stop caring about the defense capabilities of its troops.
"Today we are focused on the maximum development of the Ukrainian army. We increase the expenditures on Ukraine's security and defense sector. We are actively working with our international partners to strengthen our defense capabilities," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President noted that Ukraine should have not only powerful ground forces, but also modern and combat-capable airpower, navy, air defense systems and much more.
"Only a strong army will be the key to further peace and free development of our indomitable Ukraine," the President stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that a strong army is impossible without brave and trained defenders.
"We make every effort to make everyone who serves Ukraine feel his or her importance for the state. Decent provision and conditions for our defenders and their families is the number one task for us," the President said.
He also stressed the importance of using the potential that has opened up for Ukraine after becoming a NATO partner with enhanced opportunities.
"Implementation of NATO standards and interoperability of our troops with NATO troops are important steps for Ukraine on the path to our future," the President said.
