Ukraine has signed a contract with the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer on the supply of additional 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. This was reported to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy by Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov who signed the document on behalf of the state.
The agreement was made possible due to Volodymyr Zelenskyy's direct communication with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla. The President personally coordinated the process of negotiations on the supply of the drug to Ukraine, because today the demand for vaccines in the world far exceeds production. Therefore, the Ukrainian authorities have used various tools to provide the country with a quality vaccine. In particular, the strategic communications of the Head of State and the constant operational communications of the Ministry of Health and its head Maksym Stepanov made it possible for Ukraine to sign a contract and receive a high-quality vaccine in significant quantities.
"After long and difficult negotiations with Pfizer, we have agreed on the supply of additional 10 million doses. Tonight we signed a contract. Hence, we will receive a total of 20 million doses of Pfizer vaccine this calendar year,” Maksym Stepanov reported to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President thanked the CEO of Pfizer for helping our country during the difficult times of the pandemic and noted the efforts of the representatives of Ukraine who coordinated the process of signing the contract.
"This is a great result indeed. Now the task of the state is to ensure the vaccination of the maximum number of citizens. It is also necessary to more actively explain to people the importance of vaccination against COVID-19, because this is the only way to overcome the pandemic, return to normal life and forget about quarantine forever," said the President.
According to the agreements, Ukraine will receive the first deliveries under this contract - 500 thousand doses - in May-June 2021, 4.5 million doses - in the third quarter (July-September), the remaining 15 million doses - in the fourth quarter of this year.
