The President's Office held a meeting with Nakagome Masashi, Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
The Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Ihor Zhovkva, thanked the Japanese party for the constant support of Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. Japan has been showing a clear position since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and is putting sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation, in particular, taking into account the work of the Yermak-McFaul International Group. Last year in August, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Japan to join the preparation of the Global Peace Summit. It will take place in June this year in Switzerland.
"We look forward to the representation of Japan at the upcoming Peace Summit at the highest level. We are also counting on assistance in attracting to the Summit as many countries of the Global South as possible," noted Ihor Zhovkva.
The counterparts also discussed a draft bilateral security agreement in furtherance of the G7 Joint Declaration. They hope that the heads of state will be able to sign it at the nearest opportunity.
Ukraine and Japan agreed on a further schedule of work and coordinated cooperation in the framework of upcoming international events.
